The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on all Persons with Disability (PWDs) and other marginalized groups in the society to exercise their franchise in the coming elections.

The Commission said all Ghanaians irrespective of their ethnicity, religious background and physical condition and have attained 18 years and above are eligible to vote.

Mr Tugbenu Lan Kwame, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of the NCCE, said this when he addressed some women groups, PWDs and other marginalised groups at separate meetings in the Metropolis.

The election engagement, which was funded by the European Union, provided a platform for the Commission to educate the participants on their civic responsibilities and the need to tolerate opposing views.

Mr Kwame said the meeting was also aimed at deepening democracy through the creation of an atmosphere of tolerance and civic awareness of the voter.

He said Ghana needs well-informed electorates, capable of thinking critically and intelligently and take decisions that would enhance the country's democratic credentials.

He urged all electorates to take a keen interest in civic education activities to become well informed in the country's democratic processes.

Mr Kwame said the Commission would continue to promote democratic ideals and principles and inculcate in the citizenry the need to exercise their rights and obligations.

In all, 20 communities benefited from these public engagements which took place at several towns including Sekondi, Bakakyir, Effiakuma, Takoradi, Kwesimintsim, Kojokrom and many others.
