Five soldiers attached to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army have been arrested over allegation of gang-raping a 300-level student of the Adekunle Ajasin University.

Earlier, there were reports that the unnamed student was raped while on her way home from the school campus, an incident doctors at Ondo State Specialist Hospital confirmed.

The rape allegation was initially denied by the brigade but they bowed to pressure after the media report went viral.

The Brigade Commander Zakari Abubakar, who allegedly claimed that the rape allegation might be a ploy to weaken the army’s plan to counter kidnappers when he got the first got the news on Wednesday July 31, confirmed the arrest of the soldiers when contacted on Friday August 2.

“It is very true that they (the soldiers) have been arrested. We have commenced our investigation,” he said.
