A gory accident has occurred on the Techiman-Kintampo highway around Tuobodom on Friday 13th September 2019.

With at least eight persons  feared dead and scores injured at Tuobodom in the Bono East region on the Techiman-Kintampo highway.

The accident involved a Mercedes Benz truck with the registration number AS 9554G and a taxi cab with the registration number BA 1356 P.

Confirming the news, the Bono East MTTD Regional Commander, ASP Andrews Okonengye said the truck which was conveying school desks collided head-on with the Taxi which had passengers travelling from Kranka in the Nkoranza North district to Techiman.

According to the police they had a distress call on Friday at about 2 pm that a fatal accident had occurred on that stretch.

The driver of the truck one Yaw Offin, 50,  was moving towards Kintampo from Techiman but lost control of the truck.

“When he got to Tuobodom, the driver lost control of the vehicle and just on the verge of falling, a taxi cab coming from the opposite direction been driven by Kwame Mensah, 26, with four other people on board and crashed into it.

“The impact was so great such that the cargo truck turned around to face the opposite direction,” ASP Okonengye narrated.

Six people died on the spot while two were rescued and sent to the hospital by officers of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The two injured passengers died two hours after they were admitted at the hospital. In all, there were two females and six males.

Police have identified all the deceased except one of them and the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital.
