The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has confirmed that the mother of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, is in stable condition and has returned to her family home in Kwahu.

This follows her brief medical observation in Accra, arranged by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who intervened promptly to ensure the elderly woman received appropriate care after receiving the devastating news of her son’s death.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, August 8, Dr. Kevor said the decision to move her was necessary due to the initial shock and emotional toll of the tragedy. He commended the family and local chiefs for their ongoing support.

“Currently, his mom is fine. It is not easy losing your only child. It is not easy. At her age, she was expecting that she would rather lead and her son would give her a befitting burial. But now, it is a different story, one that she is obviously not prepared for.”

“She was brought down to Accra from Koforidua on Wednesday, but she is back with her Kwahu family. Her chiefs and family have been around. Also, the family of the father of Dr. Omane Boamah from Effiduase have also been around trying to receive visitors,” he stated.

The Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, was among eight individuals who perished in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District on Wednesday, August 6.

Others who died in the crash included Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong; and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.

The three crew members of the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—also died in the crash.

The helicopter departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi for an official anti-illegal mining mission but went off radar shortly after takeoff, prompting a search-and-rescue operation. Authorities later confirmed that all eight occupants had died.
