Haruna Iddrisu leads NDC 2028 flagbearer poll- Global InfoAnalytics
A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has ranked Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, as the leading contender to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections.
According to the survey, Haruna commands 30% of national support, ahead of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24%, and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson with 18%. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah polled 10%, while North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa secured 8%.
Other potential aspirants, including Eric Opoku, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and Kwame Awuah-Darko, each received 2%.
Former Minister Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah polled 1%, while Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije did not register any significant support.
In alternative match-up scenarios, Haruna Iddrisu’s lead becomes even more pronounced. In a hypothetical three-way race excluding Ato Forson, Haruna garners 45% support, extending his lead over Asiedu Nketia (37%) and Julius Debrah (18%).
Among declared NDC supporters, Haruna’s support rises to 47%, and he performs particularly well in key swing regions, where he commands 48%.
However, the race becomes far more competitive in Haruna’s absence. In such a scenario, Asiedu Nketia takes a narrow lead with 40%, followed closely by Ato Forson at 38%, while Julius Debrah holds 22%.
Among core NDC voters, this race tightens further, with Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson virtually tied at 42% and 41%, respectively. Notably, Forson gains the upper hand in the swing regions, where he polls at 47%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 38%.
The findings suggest that while Haruna Iddrisu is currently the clear favourite to lead the NDC into 2028, his absence would trigger a closely contested battle between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, potentially reshaping the party’s succession dynamics.
