Four Black Queens players power FK Apolonia Ladies to women UCL qualification
Four Ghanaian players have played key roles in helping FK Apolonia Ladies secure qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League after the club finished second in the Albanian Women’s League.
The Ghanaian quartet of Esther Owusu, Afia Nyarko, Georgina Ameyaa and Afi Amenyekuwere instrumental throughout the campaign as Apolonia enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in recent years.
Goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku, who has earned recognition with Ghana’s Black Queens, provided stability at the back, while defender Afia Nyarko became a key figure in the club’s defensive setup.
In midfield, Georgina Ameyaa impressed with her creativity and work rate, helping the team maintain consistency during the title race.
But it was forward Esther Owusu who stole the spotlight with a remarkable season in front of goal. The striker finished as FK Apolonia Ladies’ top scorer and ended the campaign as the second-highest scorer in the Albanian Women’s League.
Their collective performances have now earned the Albanian side a place in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, marking a major milestone for both the club and the Ghanaian players involved.
The achievement also highlights the growing impact of Ghanaian women footballers abroad, with the quartet continuing to raise the country’s profile on the European stage.
