2026 World Cup: Never write off Ghana – Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging Ghanaians to continue supporting the national team despite growing doubts over their chances.
Ghana have been drawn in a difficult group alongside England, Croatia and Panama for the tournament’s group stage, but Nyantakyi believes the four-time African champions thrive when expectations are low.
Speaking to Pan-Africa Football, the former football administrator said the Black Stars should never be underestimated.
“I have hope that we will do well,” Nyantakyi said. “Never write off the Ghana team. The time you have the least faith in the team is exactly when they spring surprises.”
The Black Stars have a long history of defying the odds on the international stage, with memorable performances at previous World Cups, including reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, the furthest Ghana side has gone at the tournament.
Nyantakyi called on supporters to unite behind the team as preparations continue for the competition.
“Let us rally behind them, and I think that they can do well,” he added.
Ghana will be hoping to make a strong impression in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup as they prepare to face some of the tournament’s most experienced sides in what is expected to be a highly competitive group.
