Egypt captain Mohamed Salah says the Pharaohs are determined to make their supporters proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the team intensifies preparations ahead of its return to football’s biggest stage.

Speaking to Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, the Egyptian skipper stressed that the squad’s attention remains firmly fixed on training and preparation rather than looking too far ahead in the tournament.

“What I’m thinking is that we should just focus on our camp and train harder, and we’ll see what happens in the group,” Salah said.

The former Liverpool forward said the players are fully aware of the expectations placed upon them and are committed to giving everything for the country.

“We want to make people proud and we will do our best,” he added.

Egypt face a difficult challenge in Group G, where they have been drawn alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand. Salah acknowledged the competitiveness of the group, saying every team has a realistic opportunity of reaching the knockout stages.

“It’s a tough group. Everyone has a chance, so we will give it our all and we’ll see. We hope we can go far,” he said.

The Pharaohs have arrived in Spokane, in the United States, where head coach Hossam Hassan is overseeing the final phase of preparations before the tournament begins.

Egypt’s World Cup campaign starts with a high-profile clash against Belgium on 15 June, a fixture many observers believe could prove decisive in shaping the group’s outcome. A positive result would significantly boost the North Africans’ hopes of advancing beyond the first round.

Much of those hopes will rest on Salah, who remains Egypt’s most influential player and one of the tournament’s biggest stars. The 34-year-old is expected to play a crucial role both on and off the pitch as the seven-time African champions seek to make a lasting impression on the world stage.

As anticipation builds ahead of the World Cup, Salah’s message to his teammates and supporters is straightforward: remain focused, work hard and give everything for Egypt. The challenge now will be turning that determination into results when the competition gets under way in the United States.
