A Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, has picked nomination forms to contest the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Damongo Constituency ahead of the 2020 elections.

The form was picked on Mr Jinapor’s behalf by a former constituency secretary to the party, Mr Ayuba Seidu.

Sources close to the NPP in the Savanna Region and the Damongo Constituency indicate that Mr Jinapor, who is a brother to the main opposition NDC’s MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, Mr John Jinapor, is likely to go unopposed in the contest slated for September 2019.

The Damongo seat is currently being held by the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Select Committee, Mr Adam Mutawakilu.

Apart from the Salaga South Constituency seat won by the NPP in the 2016 elections, the remaining six parliamentary seats out of the seven in the Savanna Region are being held by the NDC.

Mr Jinapor, who was speaking recently at the Savanna Regional Special Delegates’ conference of the NPP held at Damongo, said the Damongo Constituency used to be a solid ground for the NPP (won twice in 2000 and 2008), and, therefore, called on the delegates of the party and its members to work hard to enable them win it back in the 2020 polls.
