The Ministry of Youth and Sports, has officially secured an accident insurance cover for the 41-man delegation of the Black Stars who will be at the 33rd African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

Ghana will be playing the African Cup of Nations tournament which starts on Sunday 9th January,2022 in Cameroon with a 28 man playing squad with the others consisting of the technical and management team members.

The GHC2,050,000 package will cover the team for the entire duration of the AFCON tournament in terms of any unfortunate incident or eventuality.

At a brief ceremony on Thursday, January 7th, 2022, at the Sports Ministry, officials of GLICO and the Sports Minister, Hon. Ussif Mustapha made this known.

GLICO also used the occasion to donate an undisclosed amount of money to the Black Stars, as they commence their quest to end the nation's 40-year wait for the AFCON trophy on Monday.

Ghana is seeking to end the almost four decade wait for the African Cup of Nations trophy when the 33rd edition kicks off in Cameroon this weekend.

The Black Stars have not won the biennial tournament since last winning in Libya in 1982 although the Ghana team has gone close three times in 1992, 2010 and 2015 but lost all finals to neighbours Ivory Coast and Egypt.

Ghana is in Group C of the tournament with the likes Morocco, Gabon and Comoros and will play its opening game on Monday 10th January,2022.
