Akufo-Addo promised Salaga people regional capital in 2016 – Asiedu Nketiah

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC], Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says the youth in Salaga felt 'fooled' after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo swerved them of the regional capital status of the newly created Savannah Region.
He alleged that the NPP during the 2016 General election campaign promised the people of Salaga to bestow on them the capital if they voted them into power.
“You see, when you keep promising all the people of one position and you don’t fulfill it, you get these kinds of responses from them,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
However, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has said the rampaging youth that torched the office of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Salaga South on Tuesday will be dealt with according to the law.
The youth became angry following the selection of Damango as the regional capital of the newly created Savannah Region. They had wanted Salaga to be selected as the regional capital instead.
Salifu Saeed, who has been appointed by the President as the caretaker minister for the newly created North East and Savannah regions, said razing down billboards and setting fire to buildings are strictly criminal.
“The security [personnel] are on the ground . . . I am going to hold a REGSEC [Regional Security Council] meeting . . . those who are destroying properties are going to be treated as criminals,” he said.
