Akwasi Aaquah denies sabotage claims by Kontihene, vows to expose galamsey dealings in Akim Oda

Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, has refuted claims made by Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere II, the Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, that he is undermining Solomon Brako Kusi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Birim Central.
In a press release issued on November 3, the MP characterised the accusations as untrue and an effort to divert attention from the actual battle against illicit mining in the constituency.
He stated that his dedication to safeguarding the environment and the residents of Akyem Oda has always guided his actions.
“I strongly deny the allegations made by the Krontihene accusing me of sabotaging the MCE. My focus remains on helping to end illegal mining in Akyem Oda and safeguarding our environment for future generations,” he stated.
Hon. Acquah clarified that it is his responsibility as the MP for the area to reveal the MCE's purported involvement in galamsey operations.
He expressed disappointment that he is being criticized for standing up for what is right rather than being supported for demanding accountability.
He said that his research exposes dubious actions involving several illegal miners who were supposedly forced to pay penalties and permitted to carry on with their business.
He called on the relevant authorities to look into the matter and promised he would soon release comprehensive evidence to support his assertions.
The MP urged locals and traditional leaders in Akyem Oda to come together in the struggle against illicit mining, emphasizing that the environment of the constituency should be the first concern rather than defending those who are suspected of wrongdoing.
“I urge all well-meaning citizens and traditional authorities to join me in this fight. Together, we can work towards a better future for our constituency,” he noted.
Mr. Acquah, who also serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting transparency and environmental protection in Akyem Oda.
