Alan Smith urges Arsenal to plan for Thomas Partey's possible exit

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has suggested that the Gunners prepare for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey’s potential departure, with his contract set to expire next summer.
Partey, 31, has been a pivotal figure in Arsenal’s midfield, showcasing strong performances this season, including a standout display in the club’s 5-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon.
However, with uncertainty surrounding his long-term future, Smith has advised the club to act proactively.
Speaking to Tribuna.com, Smith highlighted Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as a potential successor.
"I think Arteta is looking at Tijjani Reijnders because players like Thomas Partey don't seem capable of what they used to do athletically and can't cover the pitch as they once did," Smith remarked.
He further emphasized Arsenal's need for continuous improvement, stating, "Arsenal have spent a lot of money, but if they've got the funds, you just want to keep improving the squad."
While manager Mikel Arteta has not publicly addressed Partey’s future, the club is likely to monitor the situation closely.
Partey’s departure could mark a significant shift in Arsenal’s midfield dynamics, and identifying the right replacement will be crucial for maintaining the team’s competitive edge.
