Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, who is a MP for Salaga, was elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Madina  Constituency for the 2016 parliamentary election,  and has vowed to wrestle the Madina seat from the Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy.

Honorable  Alhaji Ahmed Bukari Sorogho launched  his campaign on Saturday at the Madina market  in a bid to retain the seat, an exercise which analysts describe as one that will meet a stiff opposition from the former works and housing minister under the Kuffour Administration.

However, Speaking to ghanaguardian.com after the last Saturday's event, Abdul Razak Hussein, ridiculed the "perceived" stiff opposition expectations from Boniface, branding the NPP's candidate as "desperate."

The constituency Secretary for the NDC,  believes the seat, which has been won by the NDC since 1992, will never fall from the hands of  the ruling party.

"Look let me tell you, Boniface is no match for Sorogho, he is nowhere near Sorogho who has lived and dined with the people of Madina. Where from Boniface? Since when did he become resident of Medina?"he quizzed

"Boniface was 2 times MP for Salaga, where he was born,  and doubled as a minister  within the 8 years of Kuffour.

The people of Salaga, just with population about 40000 had to boot him out because he could not manage that constituency. What makes him think he can manage Madina, a constituency with a voter population of 150000 plus.?" Boniface cant lie to us."

This perceived stiff opposition from Boniface will be swamped come December 7 .The seat is not for desperate people from a desperate party. This seat is for those who have worked hard and Alhaji Ahmed Sorogho and the NDC have worked hard for this constituency.'Inshallah' Ahmed Sorogho will floor Boniface."

img-20161020-wa0039 img-20161020-wa0040The Incumbent MP, Alhaji Ahmed Sorogho during his campaign launch, called on the people of Madina to retain him due to the "instrumental" role he had played in getting Madina developed, using the madina market as clear testimony.

“In Madina today if nothing at all we have well paved grounds to hold community gathering such as this. About 15 years ago we did not have a market like this here. The whole of this place was covered in refuse and was more or less a refuse site.”

“It was me Alhaji Sorogho who was instrumental in getting this market project done, with the supports of others, Assembly men, chiefs, mallams and pastors of this area. Madina did not even have a good market like this. We need to continue our good works.”

The NPP has never won the Madina seat since the restoration of multi-party democracy in 1992, and it is banging its hopes in the former  MP for Salaga MP, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, who lost his seat in the 2008 election, to annex the seat in this year's election.

The NDC, on the other hand, has won the Madina Constituency since 2004 when it was created out  from the then Ga North constituency.
