Ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola, Palancas Negras head coach Pedro Goncalves has acknowledged the difficulties the Black Stars face in their quest to qualify for the tournament.

Ghana, winless in their campaign thus far, sits third in Group F with just two points, trailing both Angola and Sudan.

Goncalves, speaking to Ghanasportspage ahead of the match set for Friday, November 15, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, expressed respect for Ghana’s footballing history but also highlighted the challenges ahead for the Black Stars.

“For us, playing against Ghana is always special,” Goncalves said. “Ghana is one of the best teams in African football, with exceptional players, especially in the midfield and attack.” Despite Ghana's strong reputation, Goncalves pointed out that the team’s path to qualification is far from certain.

“While Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender, their chances of qualifying are low at the moment.

They not only have to win but also depend on Sudan, who need just one point from two games to secure their place. It’s a very tough challenge for Ghana,” he explained.

The Black Stars are set to face Angola in Luanda, and the match represents a pivotal moment in Ghana’s qualification hopes.

Ghana will need a win and other favorable results to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
