Angola lead group F after victory over Sudan in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Angola has taken control of Group F in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with back-to-back victories.

Following their win over Ghana in the opening match, the Palancas Negras secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Sudan on Monday in Luanda.

The match remained goalless through an eventful first half, with both sides creating opportunities but failing to find the back of the net.

Angola broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, with a penalty awarded in the 51st minute following a foul on Milson inside the 18-yard box.

Forward Mabululu confidently converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.

Sudan responded quickly, equalizing just four minutes later through Mustafa Karshoum's precise right-footed shot, making it 1-1 in the 55th minute.

The match appeared destined for a draw until the 81st minute, when Randy Nteka's deflected shot found its way into the net, giving Angola the decisive advantage.

Despite Sudan's efforts, they were unable to find another equalizer.

This loss marks Sudan's first defeat in five competitive matches under head coach Kwesi Appiah.

Angola now top Group F with six points, while Sudan remain in second place with three points.

Ghana and Niger sit third and fourth, respectively, with one point each.

The qualifiers will resume in the second week of October, with Angola facing Niger and Sudan meeting Ghana in crucial home-and-away ties.
