The All People’s Congress (APC) has chosen Emmanuel Carl Bartels, a chartered accountant, to partner its flag-bearer, Dr Hassan Ayariga into this year’s December 7 presidential election.

The 64-year old is from Elmina in the Central Region and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana and Nigeria, with 17 years of working experience.

Until today, he was the First National Vice-Chairman of the party having been elected at the party’s maiden congress in Accra in June this year.

Mr Bartels was named Saturday morning at the party’s headquarters in Accra. In his acceptance speech, he thanked the APC for the giving him such an opportunity to take up such a challenge, saying with God all things are possible.

“We have excellent academicians, excellent public officials regarding their area of study, but we are coming in with something that is above all this; we are coming in with wisdom and understanding of the way of the life of the ordinary man in Ghana,” he said.

He said an APC government would rescue the economy of Ghana if the people give the party the chance in the December 7 general elections this year, saying, “We are passionate about the plight of the ordinary man.

“We are going to solve the economics of the ordinary man, the economy of the ordinary man in Ghana that is the approach and I think we will succeed if the people of Ghana elect the APC,” he said.

Meanwhile TV3 correspondent who was at the event, Jonathan Adams, reported that Dr Ayariga has said his party has all it takes to rescue the country from its economic crisis. Dr Ayariga has consequently urged Ghanaians to reject the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress to vote for the APC.

Age of presidential aspirants Our correspondent reported that Dr Ayariga has called for a constitutional review set a cap on the age limit for persons seeking to become President of Ghana.

He said such persons should not be above the age of 65 years He also said the APC will pursue the idea of an all inclusive government concept when elected because it is the surest way of developing the country.
