Police in Kumasi are warning residents, particularly woman to be to extra careful with the type of commercial taxis they pick during evening hours.

This is because several residents are getting robbed in taxis in recent times in the metropolis.

Addressing Journalists in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional Police Commander COP Kofi Boakye said his command has received a number of complaints from persons who have fallen victims to such attacks.

“We used to have 'pick and rob' where taxi drivers will pick people and rob them on the road, it abated after we arrested a group of people at Barikese but recently within that past three weeks, it has resurfaced again. What they do is that they pick you with a man and woman in the car and when they get to especially, the Melcom and Golden Tulip area, they rob you, beat you and throw you away.

"I will advise that you pick taxis from a recognized taxi station, and if you take taxi and it’s not from a station and there are people in it don’t pick it, if the taxi driver insists he wants to pick other people on the way don’t pick. I want to also emphasize that before you sit in a taxi take the taxi's number and send it to anybody you know before you set off,” COP Boakye warned.
