Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has announced that he is withdrawing from political activities to concentrate on humanitarian work.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan expressed that his involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had not been beneficial for the youth of Ghana, prompting his decision to shift focus toward empowering young people through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
Earlier this year, Gyan had been an active supporter of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, even serving as the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee.
However, he clarified in his recent statement that he would no longer be engaged in partisan politics.
Gyan emphasized his commitment to continuing his humanitarian endeavors without the influence of political affiliations and extended his best wishes to all political parties for a peaceful election on December 7, 2024.
Asamoah Gyan remains a celebrated figure in Ghanaian football, holding the record as the nation's all-time top scorer with 51 goals.
I HAVEN’T BEEN FAIR TO THE YOUTH AND THE PEOPLE OF GHANA. HENCE FORTH I AM NOT AFFILIATED TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY, I WILL CONTINUE WITH MY HUMANITARIAN WORK AND HELP THE YOUTH OF GHANA IN MY OWN SMALL WAY. NOTHING POLITICAL, I WISH ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES A PEACEFUL ELECTION ON… pic.twitter.com/lfiWalvJQA
