Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan marked his debut for new UAE club Al Ahli with a goal in a 5-1 win over his former side Al Ain on Wednesday night.

The veteran Black Stars player didn’t start the League Cup game at the Al-Rashid Stadium in Dubai, but was introduced as a second half substitute in the 73rd minute.

Just six minutes later he netted Al Ahli’s fourth goal, scoring thanks to an assist from Brazilian Everton Ribeiro.

The goal will help Gyan silence his critics after Reading manager Jaap Stam claimed that the player failed a medical at Reading before the close of the transfer window last week.

After Gyan’s proposed move to the English side collapsed, he was then signed on loan by Al Ahli, where he has reunited with ex-Al Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu.
