Asante Kotoko have appointed assistant coach Hamza Obeng as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, following the resignation of Prince Yaw Owusu.

The Kumasi-based club confirmed the decision in a statement, announcing that Obeng will take charge of the senior team as they seek to stabilise their campaign.

Owusu stepped down from his role after a difficult spell marked by inconsistent results. He had himself been appointed on an interim basis after Abdul Karim Zito left the post earlier this year.

Zito’s departure came in the aftermath of Kotoko’s FA Cup defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium, a result that triggered a change in the club’s technical leadership.

In confirming Owusu’s resignation, Kotoko said the coach believed stepping aside was in the best interest of the team.

Attention has now turned to Obeng, who has been working with the club’s youth side, the Young Porcupines. His appointment is seen as a move to inject fresh energy as the season enters its final phase.

“In the interim, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng will take charge of the team for the remaining games of the season,” the club said.

With 29 matches played in the Ghana Premier League, Kotoko are currently sixth on the table with 43 points. The club will be hoping their new interim coach can guide them to a strong finish as they push to climb higher before the season concludes.
