Asante Kotoko SC have announced the death of the mother of their captain, Samba O'Neil, in a statement expressing deep sorrow and support for the defender.

‎The Kumasi-based Ghana Premier League side confirmed the sad news this evening, extending their condolences to O’Neil and his family during what the club described as a difficult period.

‎“Asante Kotoko SC, with deep sorrow, announces the passing of the mother of our club captain, Samba O’Neil,” the statement read.

‎“The club extends its condolences to our captain and his family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”

‎O’Neil has been a key figure for Kotoko this season, leading from the back as the club pursue their league title ambitions. The centre-back is known not only for his defensive solidity but also for his aerial threat during set-pieces, particularly from corner kicks, where he has proved decisive.

‎His presence has been instrumental in Kotoko’s campaign, and the club will be hoping their captain finds strength and comfort in the support around him as he navigates this personal loss.

‎For now, football takes a back seat as the Porcupine Warriors stand in solidarity with their leader in mourning.
