National security operatives in the Ashanti Region have retrieved some explosives close to the residence of the Deputy Regional Minister, Andy Osei Okrah.

The materials, included 2 7.5kg gas cylinders, cables, a tube of flammable liquid and timers.

A police officer who was on duty in the area close to the residence around Golden Tulip Hotel at Nhyiaeso, said two unknown men on a motorbike dropped the materials there and fled on Monday night, when he attempted to question them over their suspicious activities in the area.

He told Citi News’ Lauretta Timah that he contacted the military who reported to the site and inspected the materials; but left upon realizing the explosives were not live.

Some military officers including officials from the anti-bomb squad of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), returned to the site Tuesday morning to retrieve the explosives.

The deputy Minister's official bungalow in the Ashanti Regional capital, is close to the National Security Data Centre in the region.

Government and security officials are yet to comment on the development.
