The chairman of Ashanti region wheelchair basketball team Mr.Osei Mensah,has pleaded to co-operate bodies and Ghanaians to come to their aid after going through difficulties in their 5th edition of KT Hon Victor Ochei international wheelchair basketball in Nigeria.

Ghana placed third in the championship which was played at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas sports hall of the teslim bologun stadium in Lagos.

In an interview with Kumasi based "Ashh Fm", the chairman detailed the inconvenienced they passed through before honoring the tournament in October 3-8.

"It was not easy, it was very difficult going to Nigeria, many people helped us but on the road we encounter hardship from the boarders of Togo, Benin, and even entering the host nation Nigeria wasn't easy."

Osei explained how they were able to fund themselves for the journey.

" we wrote so many letters but unfortunately we didn't get any help from government until some churches and Champion divine came to our aid, the people at Suame- Magazine also helped us."

"We wrote to the Ashanti regional minister Hon Isaac Ackon, to intervene with the ministry of youth and sports for fund but the minister gave as ideas without money, so we need to go and beg."

The Amputated basketball wheelchair chairman added; " This is our third time and for the past three years we have been representing mother Ghana."

" the Nigerians were using current and proper wheelchair, ours were outmoded but we were determined and managed to place third."

Nigeria won the championship, with countries like Cameroon, Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana all participated in the tournament.
