FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has opened up about Kevin-Prince Boateng’s recent exclusions from his squad.

The Ghanaian international was cut from the squad that drew 0-0 against Lyon in the Champions League round 16 first leg tie despite making the trip to the France.

His second consecutive omission came on Saturday when the 31 year old once again didn’t make the bench as Barcelona secured a 4-2 win against Sevilla in La Liga.

Since his arrival on loan in January, Boateng has made only two appearances for the Catalan giants, in the 2-0 Copa defeat away at the Sánchez Pizjuán and in the unconvincing 1-0 victory over Valladolid at Camp Nou, where he lasted an hour before Suárez was thrown on to add some impetus to the attack.

And according to Valverde, "It is true that he is not participating much, he knew what was his role and has come to help us accepting these circumstances, which is clear to all."
