18th June 2018
Controversial Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has sparked another debate online as she has advised men to be responsible so as to be celebrated like women are.
According to the actress, who found herself facing twitter backlash after she posted the controversial tweet to her page on Father's Day, men should focus on being good fathers which will generate the same buzz women receive on mother's day.
In a tweet which has since been deleted, the “Keteke” actress said “I don’t see Mother’s begging and reminding everyone when it’s Mother’s day. We celebrate our mothers because we want to,not because they try to guilt us into it. So focus on being GOOD fathers and you don’t have to beg to be celebrated on Father’s day. #HappyFathersDay”
The post which was sent at 4:40am on a day which is supposed to be special for fathers who have been there for their families understandably did not go down well with people on the internet who bombarded her page with furious replies which then prompted the actress to make her account private.
The award winning actress who is known for having an opinion on issues which has over the years landed her in trouble with many including her colleagues, politicians and the media insisted in an earlier interview that she had taken a backseat on commenting on social issue.
“This year I am just concentrating on my work. The amazing thing about this year is I took a step back and I see so many women and even men fighting for rights equality. People have become more vocal. I cannot say I set the precedence but it is good to see that the things I have spoken passionately about people are now aware [and] they understand they have a voice they can use,” she said.
“Lydia Forson is not controversial anymore because we all get that now we have a voice that has power so you can speak up, it doesn’t matter what political party you belong to, your gender, your religion; speak out when it is important,” the actress added.
