The Berekum West District Assembly in the Bono Region has received 10,000 hybrid coconut seedlings for distribution to farmers to boost agricultural productivity and promote youth participation in farming.

District Chief Executive (DCE) Collins Asomah disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Suntreso, a farming community in the district. He said the seedlings are expected to mature within three years and contribute to job creation and income generation in the area.

Mr. Asomah noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of making agriculture more attractive, particularly to the youth, as part of efforts to expand the country’s coconut industry and improve rural livelihoods.

He said the government remained committed to creating sustainable economic opportunities and encouraging unemployed youth to venture into farming and coconut plantation as a viable source of income.

Highlighting progress under the government’s Reset Ghana Agenda, the DCE mentioned that the Assembly had already distributed piglets to support young farmers engaged in piggery in the district.

Mr. Asomah described coconut farming as a lucrative and fast-growing enterprise and urged the youth in the district to take advantage of the opportunity to cultivate coconut and improve their living standards.
