Coach of the Black Bombers Ofori Asare has  raised concerns over the team's preparation towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, saying he fears his boys  may not be able to win a medal at the competition.

He wants the authorities allow them to begin residential camping to help them prepare adequately for the upcoming Olympic Games which commence on July 23.

Three Amateur Boxers including Captain, Suleman Tetteh a flyweight and 2012 Olympian, featherweight Samuel Takyi, and Shakul Samir a heavyweight have all qualified to represent Ghana at the Olympic Games.

With less than 3 months to the Multi-Sports event, the team is still on a non-residential camping regiment at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall in the Accra Stadium where they engage in a daily drill of various aspects of gym work with certain days reserved for roadwork and conditioning.

But Ofori Asare says that will not help them achieve their target of winning Ghana’s first medal in 51 years at the Olympics.

“As we are coming here to train, some of them, they walk here. They don’t get any allowances being it transport or training allowances.

"So at least if we go camping on time, the boxers won’t have to stress about walking from a long distance to train.

They will eat well; they will have a nutritionist guiding their diet, which is very important. Apart from that, we will have a physiotherapist to take care of them.

He said he was convinced with the capabilities of his boys to make a huge impact at the Olympics should the authorities do the needful.

He believe the delay in residential camping might be the only difficult that will prevent his boys from achieving their aims.

"All these are very important but if we delay in going to camp, it will be difficult for us to achieve our target of winning a medal for Ghana. It’s been a long time since we won a medal.

"We have the men to do it, we just need more support to prepare us well.” Ofori Asare told Starr Sports"
