Abigail Kofi Kim is brimming with excitement after earning her first call-up to the Black Queens.
The talented forward, who recently enjoyed a standout season with Turkish champions Ankara BB Fumget—netting 17 goals and providing 10 assists—has been named in Coach Kim Lars Björkegren's squad for Ghana's upcoming international friendly against Ivory Coast.
In an exclusive conversation, Kim shared her emotions about joining the national team, her ambitions, and her connection to Ghana.
"It's exciting, and I'm looking forward to getting started with the team," she said. "It's been really great; they've been welcoming, and everyone seems lovely and nice."
Kim has set her sights on major success with the Black Queens, including winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup.
"I think that if we all work together and follow the coach's instructions, we can achieve great things," she said. "My hope is to win WAFCON and then qualify for the World Cup."
Though born in Liberia, Kim’s roots trace back to Accra, Ghana. “My father is Ghanaian, and my brothers live in Ghana. I've been to Ghana only once, but it was great seeing my family and having that experience. I really enjoyed it.”
Reflecting on her stellar club season in Turkey, Kim noted the challenges and triumphs: “It was a good season. There were some tough games, but we ended up on top. It was great to help my team score a lot of goals and become champions.”
As for wearing the national jersey, Kim is determined to replicate her club success on the international stage. “Yes, of course. I'm looking forward to it. I'll try my best and score as many goals as I can,” she affirmed.
With her talent and determination, Abigail Kofi Kim is poised to make a strong impression as she begins her journey with the Black Queens.
