Black Queens drop in latest FIFA rankings ahead of WAFCON

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have slipped in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, June 12, reflecting recent struggles on the pitch.

Under the leadership of head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, the team has dropped one spot globally and on the African continent.

Previously ranked 65th in the world and fifth in Africa as of March, the Black Queens now sit 66th globally and sixth in Africa.

The decline follows a mixed run of form in their last four outings—securing just one win, a friendly victory over Senegal, along with two losses and a draw.

With preparations underway for the rescheduled 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the team will be looking to bounce back, sharpen their performances, and climb the rankings once more.
