Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor has been asked to take a pay cut by the Ministry of Youth and Sports before his salary will be paid.

This was confirmed by the Sports Minister in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM.

Apparently C.K Akonnor who takes home $25,000 is owed salary arrears of nine months but has been asked to accept a salary cut in a letter before his money will be paid.

C.K Akonnor was appointed as the coach of the senior men's national team the Black Stars but is yet to play a single game due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since replacing Kwasi Appiah, he is yet to be paid a penny by the Sports Ministry and he has also been asked to take a pay cut.

“I have told the Coach to accept a salary cut in the Covid-19 period before we pay him…we cannot give him a full salary in this Covid era.

“So we are waiting for a response from the FA,” the Minister told Asempa FM.

The Sports Minister has confirmed that the coach has in principle agreed to the cut in salary and they are awaiting the GFA.

“The coach has agreed in principle to accept a salary cut in this Covid-19 era, it’s left with the FA to come out with the modalities for us to pay him” he added
