The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced the indefinite postponement of the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations, following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of five senior government officials and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel on Wednesday.

The commemorative event, initially scheduled for Friday, August 8 at the Accra International Conference Centre, has been called off as the nation observes a period of mourning.

In an official statement, the Central Bank expressed its sorrow over the incident, saying:

“We regret to announce that the launch has been postponed.”

The Bank extended its deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government and People of Ghana, and especially to the families of the departed.

“The Bank extends its deepest condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Government and People of Ghana, and the families of the departed,” the statement read.

BoG also acknowledged the importance of national solidarity during this time of grief, and thanked the public for its understanding:

“The Bank appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all its stakeholders and the general public during this period of national mourning.”

A new date for the Cedi@60 launch will be communicated in due course.
