Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu has been tasked with the duties of the Special Prosecutor.

The stalwart lawyer who is popularly known as 'Citizen Vigilante' has been charged with the responsibility by President Akufo-Addo while speaking at the Flagstaff house on key policy issues.

The President while speaking stated "Martin Amidu should be commended for his spirit"

Mr Amidu was appointed an an Attorney General under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

The Office of the Special Prosercutor will be to investigate and charge cases of alleged corruptions under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.

His appointment comes up in less than a month as President Akufo-Addo appended his signature to the Special Preosecutor bill.

The bill has been debated in the Parliament house for months before recently signed into law.

The bill, now a law was opposed by the opposition NDC.

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Inusah Fuseini, hinted fears from the Minority that the Special Prosecutor could be used for witch-hunts.

Martin Amidu, has been hailed by the majority of the citizens of the country for the effort he made by pursuing  Alfred Woyome to the Supreme Court, a popularly known businessman, for receiving  Ghc51million judgement debt under the NDC administration.

He succeeded in his efforts by securing a ruling for the retrieval of the money.
