The Paramount Chief of Aowin Traditional Area in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin II, has been destooled, Ghanaguardian.com can report.

Kingmakers of the traditional area, performed customary rites to destool the Omanhene after they accused him of denigrating the Aowin tool.

He was said to have disrespected his elders, flogging of teens, involved himself in galamsey and impregnating his own niece.

As a result, a sheep was slaughtered at the Omanhene's Palace in Enchi, followed by the pouring of libation to symbolize his destoolment of Tano Kwaw Benbuin II.

The announcement of the Omanhene's destoolment was made by Adumhene, Nana Banni Kwadwo II and greeted with thunderous applause from a large crowd that emerged at a Royal house in New Denkyira, where the event took place.

"He has defamed our stool after he was dragged to the Hunan Rights for impregnating his own niece. He has also been involving himself in galamsey activities which go against our customary rights. Such a person cannot rule our traditional area", Nana Banni Kwadwo II said in his destoolment statement.

According to the Adumhene, Aowin Traditional Council has laws governing the paramount stools, "so if any chief violates even one of these customary laws, the said chief or offender should be destooled, or the kingmakers have to use the customary rites to destool that chief".

Nana Banni Kwadwo warned that anybody who transacted business with the destooled chief did so at their own risk.

Meanwhile, attempts by reporters to get the reaction of the embattled paramount chief was unsuccessful.

Flogging incident

In August 2019, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin II, was accused of flogging teens in the Enchi palace.

He admitted that although the incident took place in his palace at Enchi, he was not in the town at the time and when the issue got to him he made sure the police went after the culprits.

He said his name was being dragged in the mud by his detractors because he had taken a stance that he would not allow galamsey activities, in his area.

At a news conference in Enchi on Friday, August 4, 2019, the chief also said those making the spurious claims about the flogging incident should check their facts again since he had not done anything like that.

Nana Benbuin accused some rival factions in a chieftaincy dispute in the town, who he said were in cahoots with some security personnel, especially the police, and are doing all in their power to give him a bad name.

 Installation as Paramount Chief

On March 23, 2019, (8 months ago), the Oyoko Royal Family and kingmakers in Enchi installed the 38-year-old UK-based Ghanaian as the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area.
