BSNL has reportedly started offering VoLTE services for 4G SIM card holders in Gujarat telecom circle. According to a report by
Telecom Talk, BSNL subscribers with a 4G SIM card have received a text message notifying them about the “availability of VoLTE” in its 4G network. As per the report, the towns where BSNL is reportedly offering 4G VoLTE is Gandhidham and Anjar as of now and could be rolled out to the entire Gujarat circle soon.
While the public launch of BSNL 4G is expected to happen later this year, the state-owned telecom operator has been testing 4G service in Kerala and other states as well. The service provider had in 2018 received approval for the implementation of next-generation network and the telco also did a soft launch of the service in Idukki district in Kerala for testing.

BSNL has been encouraging its subscribers to upgrade to a 4G SIM card. The telco is offering 2GB of mobile data for free to those who upgrade to a 4G SIM card. The users will still be allowed to use their old SIM card but they will be limited to 3G connectivity. In order to use and experience 4G, the BSNL subscribers have to upgrade to a new 4G SIM.

BSNL is upgrading its existing 3G infrastructure to 4G while 2G connectivity will still remain in place for users and voice calling until BSNL will roll out its VoLTE services. This will make it mandatory for all the BSNL users to change SIM card.

BSNL is soon expected to launch 4G services in Bihar in the 3G spectrum itself. “Equipment for the same have arrived and work will begin really soon,” told BSNL Chief General Manager G C Srivastava recently. Around 40 cities across the state will be benefited with the BSNL’s 4G services. Places like Nawada, Jehanabad and Ara among others will be covered in the first phase, he said.

Srivastava has also claimed that BSNL would soon launch ‘internet telephony’ service as per which the cost of international calls will get reduced by around 80%.
