Incumbent CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has been barred from contesting Friday's CAF Presidential race as an appeal lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to set aside FIFA's five year ban imposed on him has been partly upheld.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Monday 8th March, 2021, in its ruling reduced the initial five year FIFA ban to two years upon appeal from the Malagasy.

This means that Ahmad Ahmad has been banned from contesting in Friday 12th March 2021 CAF elections which is due to be held in Morocco.

When the ban was initially imposed on Ahmad by FIFA in November 2o2o, the Malagasy quickly run to CAS seeking solace.

He was reinstated on Friday 30 January 2021 pending his appeal with CAS during a period where campaign for Friday's election was in full swing.

Ahmad Ahmad is accused of receiving some wrongful payments and also feasting of CAF funds to sponsor his cronies of some football association for the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

This paves way for the FIFA backed owner of Mamelodi Sundowns and South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe to have a clear run at the seat as his major contenders, Sengor, Jack Anouma have all stepped down after marathon meetings with FIFA boss Gianni Infantino who has been on the African continent for a while to push his pet project of ensuring Mostepe wins.
