Asante Kotoko have completed the double over Coton Sport after a 2-1 win on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium to advance to the group stage of the 2018-19 CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in 11 years.

The Porcupine Warriors progressed to the money zone on a 5-3 aggregate score after beating the Cottoners 3-2 in Yaounde a week ago in the first-leg clash of the playoff round.

Skipper Amos Frimpong converted a penalty on the stroke of half time before Maxwell Baakoh doubled their lead in the 53rd minute to effectively killed the tie.

The Cameroonian giants reduced the deficit through Oumar Sali in the 81st minute but C.K Akunnor’s men held on to take the win.

The result meant that Kotoko have finally secured a long awaited progress to the Group stage of CAF’s second tier competition for the first time since 2008.

They were finalists in the maiden edition in 2004, losing the title to rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. They have since been struggling to cope with the expectations from their teeming supporters.
