CAFCC: Kotoko striker Albert Amoah optimistic of qualification for Kotoko in Nigeria
25th September 2025
Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah says the team remains confident of pulling off a result in Nigeria as they prepare for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against Kwara United.
The Ghana FA Cup champions edged the Nigeria Federation Cup holders 4–3 in a thrilling first-leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21, but the manner in which they conceded three goals at home has raised concerns ahead of the return fixture.
“I think for the past two games that we have played, we haven’t conceded and this is the first time we are conceding three goals,” Amoah told the media.
“No one expected them to come here and score three goals, so it’s football—we can also go there and prove them wrong. We are not giving up.”
The second leg will be played at the MKO Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Sunday, September 28, after Kwara United’s home venue was deemed unavailable due to renovations. The neutral setting could offer Kotoko a psychological edge as they aim to protect or extend their slim lead.
The winner of this tie will advance to face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round, a major test for Karim Zito’s side as they seek to re-establish Kotoko’s continental pedigree.
