Kofi Akpaloo’s face appeared contorted, albeit momentarily, when his decision to file his nomination forms for the presidential election was questioned at the Electoral Commission’s office.

Mr. Akpaloo’s Independent People’s Party together with the Progressive People has injuncted the EC’s GHC50,000 filing fees for presidential candidates.

The party filed an interlocutory injunction Wednesday claiming the EC is not following the dictates of C.I.94.

“They can’t sit there and do things anyhow,” Mr. Akpaloo had told an Accra-based radio station on Wednesday. Nonetheless, the Electoral Commission has suspended the filing fees pending a declaration by the court.

Mr. Akpaloo who had indicated that he would file his presidential nomination forms without paying the filing fees was at the EC’s office on Thursday morning flanked by some party executives.

With a broad smile on his face, he boasted, telling the EC chairperson Charlotte Osei that he has taken the commission to court over the filing fees.

But Mr. Akpaloo’s countenance suddenly changed. The EC chairman said something which truncated his excitement.

“Why did you submit your forms then?” EC boss Charlotte Osei retorted rhetorically.

“For the forms di3 I have to bring it to you,” he gathered some momentum to defend himself. However, the EC boss told him his forms would be vetted and accordingly communicated to him if it has been accepted, which he quickly responded “definitely it will be accepted” eliciting laughter from all the commissioners.
