A scheduled parliamentary debate at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region under the auspices of the NCCE was called off following alleged clashes between supporters of the imcumbent MP and an independent candidate.

According to reports, supporters of incumbent Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Ameyaw Kyeremeh and independent candidate, Ambassador George Kumi engaged each other in a fight causing the organizers to end the programme abruptly.

Sunyani-based Storm FM reporter, Ankoma Abrokwa said supporters of both candidates made unsavory comments against each other resulting in the scuffle which marred the NCCE debate at the Methodist church cathedral Tuesday.

He noted that, security personnel present had a hectic time controlling supporters of the two parties and had to call for reinforcement.

Abrokwa added that, the NCCE boss in consultation with the police decided to end the programme after the two candidates, George Kumi and Ameyaw Kyeremeh had left the venue.

But for the intervention of the police, he said the Methodist Church auditorium would have been turned into a boxing ring.

When reached for comment, Ambassador Kumi on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday blamed supporters of the incumbent MP for causing the commotion.

He claimed, the supporters of Kyeremeh, who outnumbered his angrily rushed on them and even slapped one of his supporters for no apparent reason.

His only crime, Ambassador Kumi alleged is going independent after he lost the NPP’s parliamentary primaries to Mr. Ameyaw Kyeremeh.

“My supporters and I have been assaulted by Ameyaw Kyeremeh’s supporters for far too long and I don’t know whether I can control them the next time” he bemoaned.

Ambassador Kumi warned of chaos in the December 7 elections if security personnel don’t broker a ceasefire.
