Voting for the endorsement of Municipal Chief Executive turned chaotic in the Kwadaso MUNICIPAL Assembly in the Ashanti Region.

The supporters of the nominee Richmond Agyenim Boateng were angered with assembly members for failing to afford him the two thirds majority he needed to be sworn in as MCE.

The proceedings turned chaotic at the Kwadaso Sub metro when the election results were announced after the first round of voting

Out of the eleven assembly members who voted, the president’s nominee Richmond Agyenim Boateng polled 5 Yes votes and 6 No Votes failing to make the two-thirds majority needed for his endorsement.

Not even the presence of chiefs, the Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency Dr S.K. Nuama and the Ashanti regional vice chair of the governing NPP Kwabena Nsankyire could control the supporters who went out of control.

Some of the rioting community members sympathetic to Mr Agyenim Boateng hurled invectives threatening to vote out the assembly members in next year’s Assembly elections.

The police had to come in to control the crowd and shield the assembly members from any harm till the meeting was reconvened.

The presiding member Kwame Kwakye accused some of the members of the assembly for leading a campaign a night before the elections to have assembly members vote against the president’s nominee.

Addressing the Assembly members the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Dr Samiu Kwadwo Nuamah drew the attention of the house to the lagged pace of development in the municipality because of the absence of a substantive MCE.

The elections were adjourned to be reorganised on the 10th of August tend days later for a possible endorsement of Richmond Agyenim Boateng as MCE for the Kwadaso Municipal assembly.
