Contractors working on the Ghana Education Trust Fund(GETfund) projects will hit the streets of Accra today, Tuesday, January, 3, 2017 to demand monies owed them by government.

According to them, government owes them over GHS 500 million spanning a period of six months.

One of the affected contractors, Daniel Tannoh told Accra-based Citi FM that the situation is crippling their businesses, insisting that it is determined to take legitimate steps towards ensuring that every penny owed them by the outgoing NDC government is paid.

“We came to conclusion that the only way thing we can do is to demonstrate. If we do that the President will listen to us. If we’re not paid up to Tuesday eleven O’clock am, all GETfund contractors we’ll hit the streets. We’ll move to the Presidency, Flagstaff House. If we don’t see the President we’ll go to his house and tell him we’re Ghanaians and we’ve gone for Bank loan to work, and the banks are chasing us.”

“We’ve been going to GETfund premises for our monies all this while and the story was come next week and next week never came. And we’ve been able to find out that the Ministry of Finamce has not given GETfund money to pay the contractors.

Meanwhile the GETfund said it is awaiting the Ministry of Finance to release the monies owed the fund from July up to the end of October to be able to pay up debts owed contractors working on its projects.

“We are looking at between GHc 280 million and GHc 300 million,”Deputy Administrator for GETFund, Stephen Baffoe said.
