1st November 2018
The issue of governance continues to be a huge issue for concern in Africa. It is no news that the problem of Africa is leadership - political leadership.
The recently released 2018 Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation which rates African countries according to their governance practices, said it all and prove with facts and figures what we all know.
According to the Foundation, governance is “the provision of the political, social and economic public goods and services that every citizen has the right to expect from their state, and that a state has the responsibility to deliver to its citizens.”
The index of African Governance (IIAG) is generated using the parameters of Safety & Rule of Law, Participation & Human Rights, Sustainable Economic Opportunity and Human Development as indicators of good governance.
Going by the report in contrast to the 2017 report, only 34 countries improved, with Cote d’Ivoire as the most improved; 18 countries deteriorated, with Libya posting the largest deterioration.
