The Supreme Court has granted a request by businessman Alfred Woyome to stay his cross- examination by former attorney general Martin Amidu.

The single Supreme Court judge hearing the case Thursday adjourned the matter to December 15.

According to Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare, lawyers for Woyome caused a stir after they publicly asked the presiding judge Justice Anin Yoboah "why, do you have a problem with us".

Meanwhile, Mr Amidu told the court in a counter affidavit that Woyome has no moral right to ask the court to stay his cross-examination because he has failed to pay back the GHC51 million judgment debt to the state, in spite of a court order to do so in 2014.

He appealed to the court to dismiss the plea by Woyome.

“The mere allegation that the 3rd Defendant/Applicant [Mr Woyome] is dissatisfied with and aggrieved by the said ruling or that there had been misdirection or a series of them is not a fair, just, or special circumstance warranting an application for the grant of stay of proceeding in this action.

“The public interest that I represent as the Plaintiff/1st Respondent will suffer greater hardship and inconvenience if the request of the applicant was granted,” he said.
