An Accra high court will today hear the suit filed by the Progressive People's Party against the Electoral Commission.

The PPP wants the court to stop the EC from increasing the filing fees astronomically. It describes the 500 percent hike in the presidential filing fee as arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable.

Director of Communications for the PPP, Papa Kow Ackon, said they are hopeful the court's decision will help deepen multi-party democracy.

" Just as the EC will also expect the ruling will go in their favour, we are optimistic that there will be a fair ruling and whatever the outcome may be, we are ready to move on," he told Starr News.

The PPP has also filed another suit against the EC for contempt after it accepted the filing fees from the party’s representatives during the filing of nominations.
