Court lifts injunction, clears way for Daddy Lumba’s funeral tomorrow
12th December 2025
The Accra High Court has lifted the injunction that threatened to delay the funeral of highlife legend Daddy Lumba, clearing the way for the ceremony to proceed tomorrow.
In a ruling delivered earlier today, the court reiterated that affidavits before it suggested the immediate family had been excluded from aspects of the funeral planning and stressed the need to properly consider the merits of the dispute.
Lawyers for both sides were recalled, and the judge ordered the applicants to appear before 2:00 p.m. and pay GH¢2 million into court to cover costs already incurred in the funeral preparations should the burial ultimately be halted.
The applicants failed to meet the deadline, leading the court to strike out their plea and removing the legal barrier to the funeral.
Counsel for the family head, Thomas Kwadwo Osei, welcomed the decision, describing it as a major relief that allows the wider family to continue with final arrangements.
The earlier injunction had briefly stalled preparations, causing anxiety among relatives and fans, many of whom had already travelled to Kumasi for the event.
With the application dismissed, funeral activities will now proceed as planned tomorrow.
