More than 1 million people in the US received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 10 days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Wednesday.

“Doses distributed are for both Moderna and Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine; administered doses are for Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine only at this time,” the health agency said on its website.

At least 1,008,025 people have received the vaccine and 9,465,725 doses have been distributed.

“The United States achieved an early but important milestone today – jurisdictions have now reported that more than 1 million people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since administration began 10 days ago,” Director Robert Redfield said in a statement.

The CDC called on Americans to wear a mask, observe social distancing, avoid crowds and wash their hands until every person in the country can get a COVID-19 vaccine.

As of Wednesday, the US had more than 18.3 million confirmed cases and nearly 325,000 deaths from the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
