The Convention People’s Party (CPP) yesterday picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission (EC) for its presidential candidate for Election 2016, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.

The National Chairman and Leader of the party, Prof. Edmund  N. Delle, led a team of CPP executives, made up of the First Vice-Chairperson, Susan Adu-Amankwa; the Second Vice-Chairperson, Hajia Hamdatu, and an aide to the Chairman, Selasi Koffi Ackom, to pick the forms.

Others were the Volta Regional Chairman, the Director of Elections of the party and the Eastern Regional Secretary.

Mr Dan Manyo, Deputy Director of Elections of the EC, presented the forms to the CPP National Chairman.

Already, 22 candidates have picked nomination forms from the EC to contest the 2016 presidential election.

They include seven independent candidates and 15 political parties.

The political parties include the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the United Development System Party (UDSP), the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the United Love Party (ULP).

Others are the Independent People’s Party (IPP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), the United Front Party (UFP), the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), the All People’s Congress (APC), the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and the Reform Patriotic Democrats (RPD).

Independent candidates

The independent candidates are Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, Mr Kwaku Antwi Owusu, Mr Lawrence Yamil Nketia, Mr Kwame Asiedu Walker, Chief Dr Yaw Kumi, John Alex Hamah and Major Ibrahim Rida (retd).

In 2012, six independent candidates picked nomination forms to contest the presidential election but only Mr Joseph Osei Yeboah returned his forms.

Mr Manyo said the picking of forms by candidates was progressing smoothly and that the EC still expected some political parties to pick nomination forms.
