Richard Jakpa, one of the accused in the dismissed ambulance case, has urged all subsequent presidents of Ghana to thoroughly check the background and character of those they appoint to the office of the Attorney General.

He believes that the individuals who occupy this position must be scrutinized because they represent the law, and their character may lead to jailing innocent people.

Jakpa noted that the current government has captured every state institution and has cowered everyone into silence, but some judges still uphold the rule of law, hence their victory in court.

“I will entreat subsequent presidents to check the character of who they appoint as Attorney General of the country because if you want to protect our democracy and rule of law, you must be circumspect about who you appoint as your Attorney General. He is the number one enforcer of the law.

All ethics of the legal system, he is the leader of that, so if you appoint a crooked person, a crook who doesn’t play by the books, a gangster, and he comes and takes the position, then you can be rest assured that innocent people, men of integrity, will all be sent to jail. You either join them to pull the country down, or they send you to jail.

Most Ghanaians and other people from other institutions have no choice but to join them. So you can see that almost all our institutions have been captured. They have been cowered into silence. We only have a few men of integrity who are in state institutions, who are still trying to uphold the rule of law. If it were left to these people in government, there would be nothing there for Ghanaians.

So it is very important that when it is time for us to go and vote, Ghanaians should protect their democracy and give the third independence to Ghana, and that is by bringing back John Dramani Mahama. We need Ghanaians to support. The country has been run down. We need to rescue this country,” he said.
