Danlad Ibrahim Set for Asante Kotoko return ahead of new season
Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim is on the verge of a return to the Ghana Premier League giants after rejoining the club for pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 27-year-old, who is currently a free agent, has been training with the Porcupine Warriors since the team resumed preparations for the new season. His performances have reportedly impressed the club’s technical team and management, with discussions underway over a permanent deal.
Danlad was initially given permission to train with the squad while both parties assessed the possibility of a reunion. Those talks have since progressed, raising expectations that the experienced goalkeeper could once again wear the famous red jersey.
The shot-stopper previously enjoyed a successful spell at Kotoko after joining from King Faisal, establishing himself as one of the club’s most dependable players. His commanding presence, sharp reflexes and composure under pressure earned him the trust of supporters and teammates alike.
He played a pivotal role in Kotoko’s 2021/22 Ghana Premier League triumph, producing a string of decisive performances as the club ended an eight-year wait for the league title. His consistency throughout the campaign was widely regarded as one of the key factors behind the Porcupine Warriors’ success.
Danlad’s impressive displays at club level also earned him recognition on the international stage. He received several call-ups to the Black Stars and was included in Ghana’s squads for both the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Before his rise at Kotoko, Danlad made his name at King Faisal and was regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest goalkeeping prospects. He first gained international attention in 2017 when he won the Golden Glove award at the FIFA U-17 World Cup after an outstanding campaign with Ghana’s Black Starlets.
Should the two parties reach an agreement, Danlad’s return would provide valuable experience and increased competition in Kotoko’s goalkeeping department as new head coach Eric Tinkler prepares his squad for the 2026/27 season.
With the Porcupine Warriors aiming to challenge for major honours, the possible return of one of the club’s former title-winning stars could be a significant boost to their ambitions.
